Creating a warm and inviting space is essential for family gatherings, where memories are made and cherished. Our recent project in Naas was a heartfelt journey of transformation, turning a cold, uninviting room into a cosy family haven where our clients could truly connect and enjoy each other's company.

The Challenge

Before the makeover, the existing room felt vast and unwelcoming. With large windows that turned black at night, the space lost its charm and warmth. Our clients wanted to create a cosy atmosphere where they could gather as a family. They asked to keep only the artwork they had purchased from me a couple of years ago and the existing flooring. The rest was a blank canvas awaiting a creative touch.

The Vision

Our goal was to cultivate a homely atmosphere filled with warmth and love. Here are some key elements that guided the transformation:

Ceiling: The high ceiling, while grand, contributed to a sense of emptiness. By enhancing it with a deep, rich colour, we created a feeling of intimacy and warmth, inviting everyone to feel at home.
Colour Palette: We embraced rich, deep tones for the walls, instantly creating a snug and inviting ambiance. These colours wrap around you like a warm hug, making the space feel alive and comforting. We also brought the outdoors in with a nature-inspired colour palette to create a sense of calmness and relaxation.
Textures and Fabrics: We incorporated a variety of textures, including voile on the windows, lush fabric on the sofa, velvet cushions, and cosy wool throws for extra warmth. Each piece invites you to sink in and relax, fostering a sense of belonging and comfort.
Voile Curtains: To seamlessly connect the indoors with the outdoors, we chose airy voile curtains. They allow natural light to flood the room during the day while still providing privacy at night, striking the perfect balance between openness and cosiness.
Lighting: A stunning statement light fixture became the room's centrepiece, casting a warm glow that enhances the inviting atmosphere, making every evening spent here feel special. We also added stylish floor lamps to provide soft, ambient lighting, creating cosy nooks for reading and relaxing.

Special Touches

To add personal flair, we connected our new cushions (launching soon!) with the artwork that our clients fell in love with and our own wool throw. The creative colour throw and artwork harmonize beautifully, as seen in one of the pictures. I painted this piece a few years ago and designed the throw just last year, intuitively, without looking at the artwork. As an intuitive artist, this exemplifies how you can create harmony with acrylic paint and wool throws when you follow your instincts and design from the heart.

The Result

The transformation was nothing short of magical. The family room blossomed into a cosy retreat, where warm colours, soft textures, and inviting lighting came together to create an elegant yet comforting space perfect for family gatherings and cherished moments.

There is no right or wrong way to choose colours or create a colour layout. We are all unique individuals with different preferences. Some of my clients love dark, moody colours while others prefer bright, vibrant tones. When it comes to choosing colours and layouts, remember that this is your home. You have the freedom to make it personal and choose something that speaks to you. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new and different.
